(Redding, September 27) The 6th Redding Republicans Pig Roast held on Sunday was the most widely attended in the history of this event. Over 130 guests filled the Redding Community Center to partake in the feast, meet candidates for the fall elections and honor retiring Probate Judge, Richard Emerson.
RTC Chairman Ward Mazzucco welcomed guests and expressed thanks, on behalf of all the town, to Judge Emerson for his 31 years of service as the Redding’s Probate Judge as well as his countless other contributions to the community. “While his long list of credentials and shear size might make Dick seem intimidating and formal to some, I once saw him with his tie loosened,” joked Mazzucco in the spirit of a roast, before presenting the guest of honor with wooden gavel inscribed. “For all your service to the Town of Redding from The Redding Republican Town Committee.”
First Selectman Natalie Ketcham then read and presented Emerson with a proclamation from Governor Jodi Rell which declared September 26th as “Judge Richard Emerson Day in Connecticut.”
In accepting the honors, Judge Emerson expressed his appreciation to the people of Redding for putting their trust in him to settle matters that often have great personal, emotional and financial implications. “One thing I found over the years,” said Emerson, “is that people, especially the people of this town, are essentially good and want to do the right thing.”
Candidates on hand each addressed the audience, adding their acknowledgement of Judge Emerson’s contributions and framing up their platforms for the upcoming election. They were: Dan Debicella, State Senator and candidate for the 4th U.S, Congressional Seat; John Shaban , candidate for State Assembly, 135th District; Dan Carter, candidate for State Assembly, 2nd District; Toni Boucher, State Senator, 26th District; and Judge Joe Eagan, candidate for newly formed Northern Fairfield County Probate Judge.
